Fish Tank Maintenance and Tips

Maintaining and cleaning a fish tank is an easy but often overlooked process that you can do once a week in order to keep the tank enjoyable for both you and your pets.

Below are the simple steps that you must take in order to ensure a clean and good relationship with your pet fish in your aquarium, both for now and for the future.

First be sure to have all of the supplies that you need to properly do the job. Clean water, a scrubbing brush to clean the inside of the tank, a large bucket to drain dirty water, vinegar or another cleaner, any new filters you may need, etc. First, clean the walls of the tank with a scrubber. Choose the amount of water you will change.

Usually, this is about ten to twenty percent of the water per week.  Remove the chosen amount of dirty water from the tank. You can use a siphon.  Clean the gravel with the same siphon. Run it over and through the stones so that it can clean out the algae and debris.

Clean other things that are in the tank

Pour in clean, clear water. It is important to pour in water that is the same temp as the water that is in the tank. If you are using tap water, be sure to buy a conditioner so that any dirt or toxins are removed. Add salt if you feel like it.

Let the water sit for an hour or so

Then add fish to the tank. Watch them for a minute to make sure they are swimming freely and there are no problems. Be sure to check your carbon filter, located in the system that filters regularly. It is important to change it at least once a month or sooner if needed.

This will help with the maintenance of the water at all times as well as provide fresh and healthy water for your pets. As long as you follow these simple steps, your fish tank and the fish inside of it will be healthy and live for a long time.

Another thing to note is that an auto cleaning fish tank like this can really speed up the process if you don’t have much time.
